Begwa United Brothers beat New Discovery FC 4-1 to lift the Boy Nemakonde KO trophy at the Tshifudi Stadium on Saturday.

Brothers made their intentions clear from the onset. They initiated numerous dangerous moves from behind, with their strikers, Norman Mbedzi and Nyambeni Monyai, giving the opposition defence no time to breathe.

It took United Brothers only nine minutes to open their account. This after they were awarded a free kick in the 35-meter area. Ofhani Nemakonde took the free kick, and Silence Baloyi headed home after a scramble within the box.

The referee, Mr Philip Tinyani, flashed the first yellow card in the 19th minute. Vincent Mathoma of New Discovery tackled Languta Maluleke the rough way and that prompted the referee to produce yellow.

United Brothers showed more appetite for goals in the last 15 minutes of the first half. They were rewarded by a goal in the 39th minute. Nyambeni Monyai blasted in a rocket from inside the box to bring the half-time score to 2-0.

New Discovery replaced Phathutshedzo Mbedzi with Mpho Gavhi early in the second half. United Brothers responded by introducing Mashudu Mutamba, who replaced Nyambeni Monyai. New Discovery gained momentum with time. They pulled one back in the 64th minute. Mpho Gavhi beat the keeper with a half volley from a free kick.

United Brothers increased the margin when Silence Baloyi gave the ball the final touch after Pfano Monyai's square pass. Another New Discovery player, Dakalo Mafanywa, was booked for dangerous play in the 79th minute. He tackled Silence Baloyi the rough way and the referee was lenient enough not to give him his marching orders.

Norman Mbedzi, the team's captain, scored the fourth in the dying minutes of the game.

Brothers were presented with a floating trophy, R13 000 cash prize, gold medals, soccer kit, 11 pairs of soccer boots and six soccer balls after the game. Twenty players from the team also received of R500 each. The team's head coach, Mr Kennedy Munyai, received R1 000 during the ceremony.

Begwa's way to the final was not easy. They did the unexpected when they beat Lukalo Hotspurs 4-1 in their quarter-final match. Their semi-final match was against Buluni Happy Boys, whom they crushed 4-0 to secure a place in the final.
