Music
Tshidzini is one if the most rural villages under the Thulamela Municipality where entertainment is almost non-existent.
Out of boredom, some of the youths have found themselves on the wrong side of the law after indulging in drugs and alcohol abuse. But out of these trying conditions, a group of young men organized themselves and found a positive way out of their situation by starting a choral group.
Tshidzini Boys Choir was formed in 2004 with only ten members. Today, the group that sings music in the mould of the famous Ladysmith Black Mambazo in many languages boasts 16 members and has enough material to record an album.
A few weeks ago, the group gave a splendid performance during a birthday party at Duvhuledza outside Thohoyandou that left guests asking for more. Group leader Titus Muthelo said the group had moulded them to be what they are today.
"When we are together we encourage each other on issues of education and work. So far, we have many published songs that could make a full album, but we do not have the finances to do that. Even the uniforms we are wearing is from our own contributions."
He added that they were available to perform at any event "and we hope if people book us for performances, we could raise funds and record our first album and realise our dreams. We are dreaming very big and we have all the hope that our talents will not end up here in the villages," he said.
