Local house DJ and producer Thabang Sithuga, affectionately known as Skhumba De DJ, is the master of his own sound.
Skhumba De DJ told this paper that he learnt how to be a producer at a very young age. "I used to DJ at local parties and this made me learn more about music production. I knew back then that, in order to be the best in this industry, I had to sharpen my skills. I used to lock myself in the room just to better my skills of production and learn more about my weakness and strength as a musician," he said.
"I then moved to Johannesburg to pursue my music career in 2009. It is where I released my debut single, Jazzy material. I then started going to events to mingle with other musicians and create a relationship with some of them," he said.
The reason for moving to Johannesburg, he said, was because he realised that lots of opportunities existed there. "I didn't want to miss any opportunity. I witnessed this by the time I used to visit my parents during school holidays and that made me pack my bags and go there," he added.
He was one of the top four finalists of the Jack Daniel's Music Scout that was held in Johannesburg in 2011.
He said young artists must do research on how other artists made it big in the industry. "This will help you to work on your brand, and make sure it is visible to your supporters and people know about it," he added.
In 2016, he released his first album, rum that thunders. His latest single is Security, featuring Thembelani Buyela.
