SM United Brothers were crowned champions of the Sunset Villa Soccer Tournament after defeating Malonga United 3-2 in the final match played at Malonga on 31 December.

The tournament attracted significant attention, including scouts searching for talent in the Vhembe region. Among those present was Kaizer Chiefs' development coach, David Mathebula, who attended the final.

With a total prize pool of R120,000, the tournament drew some of the best talent in the region. During the prize-giving ceremony, the sponsor, Mr Lutendo Matimbi of Sunset Villa, pledged continued support for the rural soccer tournament and hinted at an increase in sponsorship for the next season. "We are part of this community, and we are doing this to support local people," he said.

SM United's coach, Mr Sebastian Mtileni, expressed his satisfaction with his team's performance throughout the tournament. "The boys gave their best, and we developed a good understanding during the games," he said. Mtileni is optimistic about carrying this momentum into the league matches. "I've told my boys that if we focus and give our best, we can perform well this season. Winning the league would not only make us proud but also bring pride to our community and the area," he added.

For their efforts, SM United took home R50,000, two soccer kits, gold medals, and a trophy. The runners-up, Malonga United, received R20,000, a soccer kit, and silver medals. The third and fourth prizes of R5,000 each were awarded to Vhuwani Sport Academy and Mudziafera Blue Eagles.
