Well-known businessman and herbal entrepreneur Phathutshedzo Tshibubudze, widely known as Bubudza in music circles, has stepped back into the spotlight with a powerful new album that pays tribute to his late father while breathing new life into Tshivenda traditional music.
Tshibubudze, of Tshaulu outside Thohoyandou and the man behind the popular Go Down Herb, says music has always been more than just a hobby; it is a calling rooted deep in his family’s bloodline. His father, the late Avhapfani Tshibubudze, was a household name in the mid-1980s, producing classic hits such as Manyeke and Fhumudzani Vhana, among others.
Inspired by that legacy, the younger Tshibubudze has now released a nine-track album titled Venda My Home, which came out in March 2026. The album features songs such as Nyanenge, a heartfelt love song; Manyeke Remix, his father’s best; Zwiphiri Midini; and the title track, Venda My Home.
Tshibubudze worked closely with his cousin Ndivhuwo Nekwalivhe and engineer Freedom Maboya, who mastered and produced the project. According to him, most of the songs are inspired by everyday observations and personal life experiences.
“Music is like a calling. I have my father’s DNA in my blood. It might take years to manifest, but it will definitely come to the chosen generation in the family. I believe I am that chosen one in the wider Tshibubudze family.”
Tshibubudze first ventured into music in 2011 before releasing a reggae project titled Let’s Go Jamaica in 2014. However, he later stepped away from the music scene to focus on business interests. After years away from the studio, he made a comeback in August 2025 with the single Free Africa, setting the stage for his latest album.
