A new football tournament, the VW Safa Limpopo Challenge, was launched in Polokwane last Tuesday.

The league is endorsed by the Spanish professional football league, La Liga. Talent scouts from La Liga will closely monitor the tournament to identify talented players. Those with potential will be sent to Spain for football trials.

Only the top eight of the 16 teams that currently participate in the Safa Limpopo ABC Motsepe League will be eligible to participate in the VW Safa Limpopo Challenge.

MEC Onica Moloi also expressed her delight. "We will support every project that helps to increase sport participation levels in our province," she said.

The owner of VW Polokwane, Mr M Nkuna, one of the sponsors, said the company was giving back to the people of Limpopo through the sponsorship of this tournament. "It is only fitting to do this through soccer, particularly the league and teams rooted in our communities," said Mr Nkuna.

Tickets for the tournament will be on sale for R50 each at Computicket and the sales will start on 18 October. All football fans who purchase tickets stand a chance to WIN a brand-new VW Polo vehicle.

The quarterfinals will take place on 12 May 2018 at Thohoyandou Stadium and the semifinals on 19 May 2018 at Giyani Stadium. The finals will take place 26 May 2018 at Seshego Stadium.
