It is not every day that an institution gets to celebrate its 117th birthday.
For this reason, the Elim Hospital hosted a special birthday celebration at the Tshedza Guest Lodge on Friday, 18 November. Hospital staff, esteemed guests and community members attended the function where many speakers gave messages of well wishes and praise.
The hospital, which was established in 1899 by the Swiss missionary Dr Georges-Louis Liengme, has since been declared a national monument.
Speaking at the celebrations, the acting mayor of the Makhado Municipality, Cllr Sipho Masuka, said he was excited to see the professional manner in which the hospital was being managed.
In his closing remarks the hospital's chief executive officer, Mr Patrick Mabuza, encouraged staff members to continue serving the community. "Our motto is the development of people, for which proper education is critical," said Mabuza.
