Special day and special year for songbird Newie

Singer Newie celebrated her 10th wedding anniversary with husband Marcus Nthabalala, sharing their love story from their first meeting in 2005. She recently released her new album, "The Best of Newie (Live)," recorded at a sold-out show at the State Theatre.

Valentine’s Day brings mixed emotions for many couples, but not for songbird Newie and her husband. They recently celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary and, taking to her social media pages, the Tshigubu Medley 2.0 singer gushed about married life, companionship and her husband, Marcus Nthabalala.

Marking their anniversary year, she shared a montage of selfies as well as joyful photographs taken over the years. Speaking to Limpopo Mirror last week, she recounted the tale of their first encounter.

“I met Marcus at a birthday celebration at Vhulaudzi Nzhelele, at the Fountain of Life Bible Church in 2005. I was just 15 and he was 18. We drifted apart as we grew up but later met again in 2014. We were just friends for a few months but later the friendship became stronger till he asked me to be his girlfriend,” she recounts.

Also celebrating their love and happiness, Newie recently released her latest offering, The Best of Newie (Live), with considerable fanfare. Recorded at the State Theatre in Pretoria, it features a host of leading names in the music industry, among them Rofhiwa Manyaga. Achieving a sell-out at the iconic State Theatre was one of the highlights, she says.

“Seeing people filling up the theatre to capacity, without a single free seat, as well as hearing the masses singing along to all my songs with me brought so much excitement and fulfilment.”
