Last Saturday was a memorable day for the elders who fall under the jurisdiction of Hamutsha Clinic. Their soccer team received soccer kits and soccer balls from three local businessmen during a ceremony held at the clinic.

The owner of Vhugi Protection Services security company, Mr Makhado Nemukula, handed over two soccer kits to the sports organizer at the clinic, Mrs Tshifhiwa Manugu, while a representative from Lufhade Brickyard, Mr M Mudau, gave two soccer balls to Mrs Manugu. A newly established local funeral service company, Fhetshima Funeral Services, sponsored the event.

In his address, Mr Nemukula stated that the event marked the beginning of a long-lasting relationship between his company and the clinic. He revealed that the company will expand the sponsorship to other sporting codes in the coming years. A representative from the Department of Health, Mr Tshifhiwa Matodzi, encouraged the elders to participate in the various sporting codes, saying exercise was the best way to fight diseases.

He praised the donors for channeling a part of their business income towards the development of sports for senior citizens. According to Mr Matodzi, Hamutsha Clinic has the highest number of elders participating in sports in the province. He revealed that the clinic has 96 elders participating in various sporting codes.

Mr Makondelele Mamphogoro, a representative from the local branch of the South African National Civics Organization (Sanco), severely criticized the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country. Mamphogoro reminded the people of the fact that South African citizens were once foreigners in the other countries before the democratic dispensation.
