Mourners from over the province and the rest of the country paid their last respects Mr Prince Chauke of Bungeni, who died during a stampede at the FNB Stadium a fortnight ago.

Chauke was buried on Saturday at the Bungeni graveyard. Many soccer lovers marched from Chauke's home to the graveyard.

Chauke, a die-hard fan of Kaizer Chiefs, and another fan were killed in the stampede, while 19 people, including a child, sustained injuries.

Ms Veronica Chauke, the victim's sister, said the family was in great pain after losing one of their beloved members.

Mr Victor "Maradona" Ratshibaya, chairperson of the Vhembe Kaizer Chiefs supporters branch, spoke on behalf of the soccer fraternity during Chauke's funeral. He said Chiefs had lost a pillar, who had always been working hard towards the development of the team. "The whole team and supporters were shocked when we heard of his untimely death."
