After suffering a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Univen Ladies FC in their Sasol Women's League match at the Univen Stadium last Saturday, Tshandama Young Stars have another mountain to climb this weekend. They visit Sinthumulekutama FC at the Sinthumule High School Grounds in what can best be described as a biblical David-versus-Goliath battle.
While Sinthumulekutama have only pride at stake, the game is a matter of survival for Young Stars. Although three fixtures remain before the end of the season, Sinthumulekutama have already secured a place in the provincial promotional playoffs. Young Stars, meanwhile, must win at all costs to improve their chances of escaping the relegation axe.
The Stars dropped to second-last on the log with last weekend's defeat. They will need to shore up their defences to avoid a repeat of their first-round encounter, when they lost 7-1 at the Tshandama Grounds on Saturday, 19 July.
Sinthumulekutama will host Lacoste Morning Stars on Sunday at the same venue. Univen Ladies, buoyed by their victory over Young Stars, face two matches this weekend: away to Sealene Ladies in Phalaborwa on Saturday, and at home to Real Mighty Ladies on Sunday.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Real Mighty Ladies meet Sisters FC at the Mavalani Grounds outside Giyani, Toronto Ladies host Maindis Ladies, University of Limpopo take on Golden Diamond Ladies, and Dinaledi Ladies face Kanatla Ladies.
