The artists around the Vhembe are must stay at home and use the time fruitfully by composing good new music, said the PRO of the Vhembe Music Forum, Mr Rapson Rambuwani.
He said that local musicians were losing thousands of rands because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Several gigs that were scheduled to take place during this month and next month were cancelled, following the ban on public events. Rambuwani said that they feared that some who had already signed contracts for events would not survive this period. He said that artists relied on shows for their daily bread.
Rambuwani said the ban on public gatherings meant they would be without an income until the ban was over. "Unfortunately, we have no choice but to push the pause button to allow the organisers of the events to postpone the event to later dates.
"As organisation we believe we need the government's intervention to assist artists financially," he said. "We are in a difficult situation. Let us stay at home this time because the (infection) rate of the virus is growing faster daily. We must adjust ourselves and stay at home."
He appealed to musicians to use their time fruitfully and work hard at home and compose new music.
