Still no bail for policeman

The 30-year-old Limpopo policeman who allegedly killed his wife by shooting her several times on Sunday, April 25, will have to wait a little longer to hear if he will receive any bail. He appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court for on Tuesday for a formal bail application. Unlike other appearances where murder suspects are to appear, the court was half full and the case was again postponed, the third postponement since the man's first appearance. His defence council asked for a further postponement, so that he could familiarize himself with the case and the presiding officer, magistrate Willem Smit, set the bail hearing for May 26. Eric Mamida, who is based at the Mahamba port of entry in Mpumalanga, allegedly shot his wife, Thivhonali Mugwedi (28). He also allegedly held his 3-year old son hostage, threatening to kill himself and the boy. Mamida made his first appearance on Wednesday, April 28 and again on May 4, but still the bail application could not continue as the court was still awaiting the certificate confirming the schedule of the case from the Director of Public Prosecutions. The policeman, from Tshififi -Makononi outside Thohoyandou, is alleged to have been involved in an argument with his wife after allegedly discovering incriminating evidence on a phone that pointed to his wife's infidelity. The families of the couple had tried to resolve the altercation between the two, but in vain.
