Well-known Limpopo businesswoman, academic and motivational speaker Ms Humbelani Netshandama has urged security students to continue studying and improving their skills for them to boost the country's economy.

Netshandama was the guest speaker during the MA Security and Training and Private Investigation diploma ceremony that took place on Friday at the Neluembeni Lapa in Thohoyandou.

During the ceremony, 36 students received their diplomas after completing a course as general security officer (GSO) under the Sasseta Learnership. Unlike other companies, the college has taken security training to another level, in line with the fast-changing trends in the industry.

The course content entails the Firearms Control Act 2000 (Act no 60 of 2000), court evidence, evacuations and emergency skills, among others.

To top it all, those who successfully completed the course wore academic gowns during the ceremony.

Netshandama urged the students not to sit down and wait for employment, but to use the skills they had acquired to create employment for themselves and others. She advised them to group themselves and form cooperatives in order to beat the scourge of unemployment.

Netshandama also told the parents to support their children's dreams and commended the college for the good work it was doing to impart skills to the unemployed.

College administrator Ms Sheila Mushavhanamadi said that she was very impressed with the level of commitment shown by the students in their studies. "We are not an ordinary training centre, but we are moving with the times. Students who study here leave with skills ready to face the competitive and fast-moving security industry," said Mushavhanamadi.

Mr Phathutshedzo Thidiela, the college director, said that he and his team were determined to continue to work hard to produce more successful students in this field and to bring about a change to the security industry.
