Luvhalani Sunshine Pirates were crowned champions of the 2025 Muremela and Masedi Soccer Tournament on Sunday. The tournament, held at the Makhitha Grounds, featured 16 teams from the Vhembe region.
Pirates took home a R10,000 cash prize, a soccer kit, gold medals and a trophy. Runners-up Makhitha Oscar Stars received R6,000, a new soccer kit and silver medals. Third and fourth places, Tshisole FC and Legendary, each received R2,000.
Sponsor Sam Maduwa of Top T said they might increase their sponsorship next year. "The sponsorship is a token of appreciation for the support we are getting from our local communities," he said. Maduwa congratulated the organisers and said the tournament's administration was running smoothly. He added that his main aim was to unearth new talent.
The organising committee chairperson, Sandani Muremela, welcomed support from sports-loving businesspeople such as Top T. "Sports promote discipline and good health," he said. He encouraged soccer coaches in the country to visit the area and scout talent. "Good soccer is played here."
Deputy chairperson of the Makhado Local Football Association Dr Samuel Tshigomana expressed appreciation for the sponsors. "I'm very proud that we have grown young people of real quality," he said.
