After losing 0-5 to Mpheni Home Defenders in their Safa Vhembe Total Challenge semifinal at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday, Ngwenani Young Chiefs rectified their mistakes and collected three MMK Administrators League points when they beat Shonisani FC 1-0 at the Guvhukuvhu grounds on Sunday.
Shonisani FC played defensive football for the better part of the first half. Chiefs threatened to score seven minutes into the game. Livhuwani Themeli received a pre-cooked pass from Mulalo Mulea in the 35-meter area and ran straight to the keeper, only to lose possession just before he could unleash. No goal was scored in the first half, despite numerous attempts by the visitors from Ngwenani.
The game came to a halt for seven minutes after the keeper of Young Chiefs, Dakalo Mulaudzi, sustained an injury to his right knee. After receiving medical attention, Mulaudzi was on his feet again and the game continued as if nothing had happened.
It took Young Chiefs 78 minutes to score the only goal of the match. Mulalo Mulea headed home after a corner kick by Unarine Managa. The goal was a wake-up call to the players of Shonisani. They started to play attacking football, but it was already too late for them as Chiefs refused to allow strangers in their territory.
