For most 14-year-olds, life revolves around school, friends, and hobbies. For Takalani Lysa Munyai from Tshiozwi Village, it is also about breaking barriers and advocating for quality education. A finalist in Miss Teen Excellency South Africa 2025, Takalani is proving that determination and vision can shine even at a young age.

Growing up in a small, close-knit village has shaped her sense of resilience and unity. "Despite challenges, the warmth and support of my community have been instrumental in shaping who I am today," she says.

Her advocacy stems from her observations of inequalities around her. "Many young people in my community face inadequate resources, a lack of transport, and limited access to information. These barriers affect their progress and confidence. I want to be a voice for those who feel unheard."

Being selected as a finalist was a proud moment. "I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. It felt surreal, and I immediately thought about how this opportunity could help me make a meaningful impact," she recalls. Unlike pageants that focus mainly on beauty, Takalani believes Miss Teen Excellency is different: "It's about inner strength, advocacy, and making a difference."

She draws inspiration from her uncle, Silas Mthombeni, whose life story demonstrates the power of education. "He faced many struggles but transformed his life through hard work and vision. He inspires me to uplift others just as he does."

Balancing school, pageantry, and personal passions is no easy task, but Takalani thrives on discipline. Her motto, "Move in silence and let your success make the noise," keeps her focused.

If crowned Miss Teen Excellency, she plans to launch an educational initiative aimed at underprivileged rural schools. Her ultimate dream is to pursue higher education, expand her advocacy, and mentor other young girls.

"To every young girl with big dreams - start where you are. You don't need to be perfect. Believe in yourself, take that first step, and let your light shine unapologetically."
