After a decade-long hiatus from the recording studio, gospel artist Lufuno Tambani, hailing from Vhutalu outside Thohoyandou, has made a triumphant return, delighting local music enthusiasts.

Tambani, a police officer in the Thohoyandou Social Crime Prevention Unit, unveiled his third album, titled "Mvuselelo" towards the close of 2022. The album features tracks such as "Mvuselelo," "Divhonadze," and "Lufuno," with a strong emphasis on preaching the gospel against gender-based violence and societal challenges.

Tambani's recent performance at an event to launch a book by a local gender-based-violence survivor captivated attendees. His song "Lufuno" in particular left a profound impact because of its meaningful message.

When asked about the lengthy gap between albums, Tambani cited his demanding schedule as a member of the Social Crime Prevention Unit and his roles in the SAPS's jazz and military band. These responsibilities made it challenging for him to focus on personal music endeavours. Despite releasing his first album in 2003 while pursuing a music degree at the University of Venda, he had to juggle his musical career with his roles within the police.

Tambani's latest album aligns closely with his professional work, addressing critical issues such as gender-based violence, femicide, school bullying, child neglect, and kidnappings. He often incorporates his music into his speaking engagements, effectively spreading his message.

"Mvuselelo" is accessible online, and Tambani is set to release an upcoming House-Gospel-Amapiano single soon.
