A teacher, who is accused of stealing computers, made a brief appearance in the Giyani Magistrate's Court earlier this week, despite the fact that his principal cleared him of the misdemeanor.
Gezani Thomas Sithole, a 38-year-old teacher at Mukula High School in Xawela outside Giyani, was arrested last Friday and charged with theft. He was later released on R1 000 bail.
According to a police spokesman in the Giyani area, Supt Moatshe Ngoepe, the computers were allegedly stolen in August and sold to pupils in the school. Teachers at the school recently noticed that the computes were missing.
Ngoepe also stated that the police had also initially opened a case of possession of stolen goods against six pupils, but they later withdrew it and the pupils are now state witnesses.
The case has been postponed for further investigations to November 13.
