The Road Agency Limpopo (RAL) said that the office had a budget to repair the collapsed bridge along the R522 road between Tshikwarani village and Louis Trichardt.
The manager of the RAL, Mr Makhitha Chesane, said that they had received feedback from their engineering department who had gone and assessed the damage at the bridge.
"We are in the process of appointing a team that is going to work on the bridge," he said. "Our team had visited the site, done an assessment and taken pictures."
The response from RAL came after many residents and road users had complained about the state of the bridge, which had so far claimed the lives of at least three people. According to local people, the bridge had caused many more serious car accidents.
A resident, Mr Gilbert Muofhe, said that they were afraid that more lives would be lost if the government did not fix the bridge. "This is one of the busiest main roads in the country and a lot of people who use this road are just first-timers who do not know about the damaged bridge," he said.
Chesane was unable to provide the newspaper with more details on the project. "I am unable to give you the exact starting date, as the internal process has to take place," he said.
