The registration window for the Lumveleni Easter Soccer Tournament is now open. According to tournament director Mr Lloyd Mashapha, registration began on Monday this week. He confirmed that 16 teams from across Vhembe will participate in this year's tournament.
Mashapha stated that registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, with only the first 16 teams securing a place in the event. He emphasised that there is no set closing date, as registration will close automatically once the 16th team is confirmed.
The tournament will take place at the Ngudza Lumveleni Grounds over the Easter weekend (18-21 April). The registration fee is R800 per team. This year's champions will walk away with R15,000, a floating trophy, gold medals, a soccer kit, and a soccer ball. The runners-up will receive R8,000, silver medals, a soccer kit, and a soccer ball.
The third-placed team will take home R5,000 and a soccer ball, while the fourth-placed team will receive R3,000 and a soccer ball. Teams eliminated in the quarter-finals will each receive a soccer ball as a consolation prize. Manamani Blue Birds are the defending champions.
