The opening matches of the Jericho Ward 19 and 39 U/15 Soccer Tournament will be played this weekend. The tournament was officially launched during a ceremony held at the Jericho Hotel last Friday.
During the ceremony, the deputy president of the Safa Vhembe Regional Association, Mr Colbert Nempumbuluni, complimented and thanked Jericho Hotel for their continued support of grassroots football.
Ten teams from ward 19 and 13 from ward 39 will partake in the tournament. The 23 teams gearing up for the tournament are: Mulamuli FC, Mangondi FC, Mukoma FC, Makhuvha FC, Jimkone FC, Basel FC, Dumasi FC, Budeli Bayern Munich, Mutoti FC, Sidou FC, Muraga Hard Hotspurs, Tshamutavha Hot Sand, Gondeni Young Real Vultures, Banyini Flying Swallows, Malavuwe Great Movers, Nweli Stone Breakers, Zwaloni FC, Matsika FC, Malamangwa FC, Mangumane FC, Vhudimbilu Road Block and Sidou Peace Makers.
The champions from each ward will receive a soccer kit, floating trophy and gold medals, while the next three teams will take home cash prizes ranging from R1 500 to R500. The top four teams from each ward will play in the overall quarterfinal.
