Ten local beauties will be showing their curves in the Miss Vhembe Beauty Pageant that will be held in the Thohoyandou Town Hall next Thursday (12 December).

The organiser, a former Miss Black Leopards, Tovhowani Neluvhalani, said she wanted to instil confidence in the young people from previously disadvantaged areas of Limpopo. She also wanted to unleash their potential.

According to Neluvhalani, she wants to identify ambassadors for social-responsibility programmes. She also wants "to showcase and promote community charitableness, cultural excellence, awareness, education and unity. We need to promote and encourage youth enhancement by contributing socially, economically and culturally to community and environmental sustainability. We need natural beauty, not girls with facelifts and plastic surgery," she added.

This is the second Miss Vhembe. Last year, the crown was won by Miss Lufuno Nemathithi of Shayandima. "We expect the winner to work with the youth, promoting youth activities and to be a role model in society," Neluvhalani said.
