Ten-year-old Mutshidzi Munyai was among the 40 semi-finalists – out of 300 entries – for the Junior Miss Limpopo Province competition, hosted by Limpopo Beauty Modelling School and presented virtually last month.

This big-hearted little girl from Mashau village was born fourth out of five children. She comes from a vulnerable background, but that does not stop her from pursuing her dreams anyway.

Mutshidzi is a Grade 5 pupil at Mariadze Primary School. She entered the competition to build the necessary confidence, as she thought it might come in handy for her in future.

After she emerged as one of the semi-finalists, Limpopo Beauty Modelling School tasked her with launching a charity project, and Mutshidzi decided to start helping learners from other vulnerable families – especially those in the care of old grannies – with their homework. This is how she spends her time after school and during weekends.

In the village of Mashau, no public library exists. Mutshidzi says she would like to build a library for her community one day if she happens to collect enough donations or money she wins from competitions.

Meanwhile, she looks forward to be among the finalists, who are expected to be announced next month.
