As part of Disability Rights Awareness Month, international wheelchair tennis player Ronewa Mudzanani hosted a music show to raise awareness about disability rights, challenges, and misconceptions, and to promote inclusion. The event was organised through his non-profit organisation, Wheels Life Changer, which supports people with disabilities.
The show took place at Poolside Maboneng in Johannesburg on Saturday, 15 November, and featured performances by Asa Tee, Racha Kill, Fistos Valley, Rofhiwa Nethwadzi, Batondy, Romeo ThaGreatWhite, Mula Jay, NT Mrepa, Apm, Juice Head and Vhanwana.
Mudzanani, a bronze-medal-winning athlete at the 2021 BNP Paribas World Team Cup, said the event had been conceived to create a platform for discussing disability through music. "My executive team and I thought of ways to bring people together for a platform to talk about disability. We felt music could make a great impact," he said.
Guest speakers with disabilities also shared their personal experiences, highlighting the realities of living with a disability. "This was our first event of this nature, and we look forward to hosting more. It raises awareness and helps those without disabilities understand better," Mudzanani added.
He praised the strong turnout and the venue management for providing a wheelchair-friendly space free of charge. "Besides raising awareness, we also wanted to give Vhembe artists a national platform to showcase their talents, and it worked wonders," he said.
Musician Mula Jay, who performed at the event, described the experience as memorable. "During my set, I performed my biggest song, Ari Fani, and my 2025 release, Mmawe. The energy from the crowd was incredible, and the support made it unforgettable," he said.
