A fresh voice has emerged from Limpopo’s music scene as Matodzi Lettie Sitsei, popularly known as Thavhadziyawa, makes her debut with the captivating EP Siyalala.
Although recorded in September last year, the EP officially dropped in February 2026 and is already gaining traction among fans of Tshivenda music. Rooted in culture and tradition, Siyalala showcases Thavhadziyawa’s passion for preserving her heritage while delivering rich, meaningful lyrics.
The Nzhelele-born artist said her journey into music began last year, inspired by dreams. “It all started when I would dream of songs. I shared this with my mother, who encouraged me to follow my passion,” she said.
She added that her brother, a former member of the popular Vhembe Heritage Band, also motivated her to put those dreams into writing. Her big break came when she met beatmaker Vusani Makananise, who helped shape her sound, followed by producer and studio owner Seso, who brought her music to life in the studio.
Deeply inspired by legendary multilingual musician Dr Irene Mawela, Thavhadziyawa chose to focus on traditional music despite her versatility. “I love my culture, traditions, and customs. I can do all genres, but I chose Tshivenda because it represents my roots,” she said.
“There is more good music coming, and I promise to keep people on the dance floor,” she concluded.
