The 14-year-old Tinyiko Shihambi was crowned as the new Miss Waterval during a function at the Waterval community hall last Saturday.

The pretty young pupil from the Mahonisi Christian Centre competed against 11 other girls in the beauty pageant. She impressed the judges and walked away with the Miss Waterval title, a tablet, a clothing voucher, a photo shoot and a time piece.

The competition was initiated and organised by Takalani Masuleke and Rirhandzu Maphophe.

One of the judges and an organiser, Maphophe, said that she was impressed by the talent the young girls displayed. "We don't have a lot of activities in our community and the aim of this pageant is to bring back the spark in the community, especially for girls as this has the potential to motivate them to take care of their bodies," said Maphophe.

The organisers said that they would like to see more sponsors from Limpopo supporting the initiative and helping to groom young girls who have a passion for modelling.
