The Thohoyandou Athletics Club invites all local athletes to participate in the Fortress Running Series that is to be held in Thohoyandou on Sunday morning (16 July).
Runners can participate in different categories. The 21.1 km race starts at 07:00, while the 10 km race starts at 07:15, and the 5 km race at 07:20. All races start at the Venda Plaza.
The club's chairperson, Mr Steven Mavhona, said the current Comrades champion, Tete Gijana, would also participate in the 10 km race but would not be running for a prize. "Other well-known stars who will grace the occasion are former South African 800-metre champion Hezekiel Sepeng, Timothy Munzhelele, and Rufus Poto. We are calling on all our best local runners to come and rub shoulders with such a galaxy of national and international superstars," he said.
Entry fees for the different categories are as follows: 5 km race - R60, 10 km - R100, and 21.1 km - R150. Children under 12 years can participate free of charge. Entries close before the first race starts at 07:00.
