Vhembe FET College deposited three valuable points into their league account, following their 3-2 victory over Maranzhe Hungry Lions in their SAB League match at the Makwarela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
As if they were going to bury their opponents alive, Hungry Lions scored their first goal in the second minute of the game. Their overlapping defender, Mgababa Ndou, finished off a rebound after Rudzani Rambuda's volley hit the woodwork and bounced back to play. It took the students 15 minutes to retaliate. Pfano Rambani capitalised on a clearing error by Pfarelo Nemaranzhe to score FET's first goal.
Hungry Lions lost their original fighting spirit soon after the students' equaliser. They were severely punished for that. Moses Razwimisani beat the offside-trap and beat the keeper with a ground cutter to bring the half-time score to 2-1.
Hungry Lions approached the second half aggressively. Their fast forward, Mashudu Mathivha, was brought down within the penalty box and the referee, Joseph Mammba, awarded the visitors a penalty. Mulalo Siwhili made no mistake from the white spot.
Rudolph Sithole of Vhembe was reprimanded with a card, following a late tackle on Pfarelo Nemaranzhe. Vhembe FET replaced Moses Razwimisani with Tshifhiwa Mulaudzi in the 67th minute in a bid to strengthen their midfield. Rudolph Sithole forced his way through the defence of Hungry Lions and dished the ball to Gudani Makhada, who tapped the ball easily into the empty net.
The students were later reduced 10 men after Sithole was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence. A heated argument between the match officials and the coach of Hungry Lions, Mr Cedrick Mashapha, gave rise to a dramatic incident. Mashapha was ordered to leave the pitch after exchanging some bitter words with the assistant referee.
