Tourism youth winner urges young people to seize opportunities

Ms Motty Makwena Nemusibi (33), winner in the tourism category of the 2025 Vhembe District Youth in Business Competition, has encouraged young people to explore opportunities in the tourism industry as a way to combat unemployment.

Ms Motty Makwena Nemusibi (33), winner in the tourism category of the 2025 Vhembe District Youth in Business Competition, has encouraged young people to explore opportunities in the tourism industry as a way to combat unemployment.

Nemusibi, who also served as a motivational speaker during the Limpopo Youth in Tourism launch at Vuwa Lodge in Polokwane on 20 June, said the sector offered a wide range of career possibilities for young people. "Tourism creates jobs in areas like beauty, hospitality, customer service, and entrepreneurship. It empowers young people to gain valuable skills and work experience," she said.

She stressed that the industry's diversity allowed for innovation and the development of unique talents. "With the right support and training, young people can thrive and contribute to the growth of their communities," she added.

Nemusibi advised young people to consider fields such as hospitality, tour guiding, beauty, and travel management. She also encouraged them to pursue internships, part-time jobs, or volunteer opportunities to gain practical experience. "Developing skills like communication, language proficiency, and problem-solving, along with staying updated on industry trends, can give young people a competitive edge," she said.

Reflecting on her own success, Nemusibi described winning the R130,000 prize from the Vhembe District Municipality as a turning point for her business, Afrimotty Beauty Spa. She plans to invest in upgrading equipment, introducing new treatments, enhancing the spa environment, and launching a targeted marketing campaign. "Our goal is to improve service delivery, meet evolving client needs, and create a more relaxing, luxurious experience," she said.
