Preparations are at an advanced stage to stage a soccer tournament aimed at honouring local football legends. According to one of the organisers of the tournament, Mr Tshisamphiri Madima, the tournament will be staged at the CTM Stadium in Thohoyandou next Saturday (5 November).
The fallen legends who will be remembered during the tournament are Baldwin Mahlale, Alushavhiwi "Jomo" Mamphasa, Tshilidzi "Poison" Ndevana and Faranani "Ozo" Makhado.
Mahlale was a player for Thohoyandou Masters FC at the time of his death. Jomo Mamphasa was the founder and a player of Wesifa Masters until he met his untimely death. Ndevana will be remembered for his role as a pillar of strength during his time as a player for Tshifudi Masters FC. Makhado was a playmaker for Begwa Masters FC at the time of his death.
Mr Madima said that the toss to determine the teams that will meet in the first semi-final would be conducted on the morning of the tournament. The first semi-final is scheduled to start at 10:00, while the second one is expected to kick-off at 12:00. The final is scheduled to start at 15:30.
Mr Madima said that the participating teams would each be given a soccer kit. Thabelo Funeral Embassy, Vhutsila Bookshop and Mathacs Civils are some of the companies that will sponsor the tournament.
