Community members from around Vhembe and afar came to pay their last respects to the late well-known businessman, sheriff, and community leader, Mr Amos Mukwevho (70), who was laid to rest at the Khomele cemetery on Sunday, 23 July. Mukwevho passed away in the Baragwanath Hospital on 18 July, following a long illness.

The news of his death sent shock waves through the community that Mukwevho had served throughout his life. Mourners from all over the country attended the funeral and many marched to the graveyard.

Mukwevho's daughter, Ms Nomsa Mukwevho, said the family had suffered a great loss with the death of their father. "This is a difficult time for us, but we thank God, because He does everything for a reason. We humbly thank the community for their support in this time," she said.

A friend of the deceased, Mr Jothan Ratshibvumo, said that Mukwevho had been a "soldier" for the bigger part of his adult life. "He was one of those men who fought for development in the prime of his life and excelled at everything he did. He will be remembered for his dedication and commitment to his vision and tenacity as a businessman," said Ratshibvumo.
