Tricky hurdles await struggling VFC

Venda Football Club (VFC) will be lucky if they manage to win either of the two matches they will play in the next six days.

VFC will be on the road to Rustenburg on Saturday afternoon for a match against the newly promoted Orbit College FC at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium. Another mammoth task awaits VFC if they want to beat Hungry Lions FC, whom they will host at the Thohoyandou Stadium next Wednesday, 1 November.

A quick glance at Orbit College's track record shows that VFC will be lucky if they manage to hold them to a draw. Although Orbit College are the newcomers in the league, their performance in the first eight games shows that they are serious about gaining promotion at the end of the season. Orbit College are currently leading the pack with 19 points.

On the other hand, VFC are fighting for survival at the bottom of the log. They have managed to win only one game this season, against Platinum City Rovers, whom they had narrowly beaten 1-0 at the Thohoyandou Stadium.

VFC's game against Hungry Lions will not be an easy one as they are closely contesting for the league championship. The Kimberley-based side are in the third spot with 15 points. Hungry Lions managed to hold Maritzburg United to a goalless draw at the Galeshewe Stadium in Kimberley last Sunday.

The other weekend fixtures are: Upington City vs Magesi FC, Pretoria Callies vs Casric Stars, Marumo Gallants vs Baroka FC and Platinum City Rovers vs NB La Masia FC.
