Tshanzhe United Brothers have reason to celebrate after being crowned champions of the Manya and UA Tournament at Tshanzhe Sports Grounds last Saturday, beating Mukondeni Shoeshine 1-0 in the final.
United Brothers’ path to the final was challenging. They edged Tshilavulu Elite 1-0 in their opening match before defeating Tswera Hot Chillies 3-0 in a semi-final decided by a penalty shootout after a goalless draw in regulation time.
The winners received R10,000, a floating trophy and a soccer kit during a ceremony at the ground shortly after the match. Mukondeni Shoeshine took home R5,000 and a soccer kit, while semi-finalists Mapate Shooting Stars and Tswera Hot Chillies were each awarded R3,000.
Individual awards went to Ndaedzo Thathi (goalkeeper of the tournament), Samuel Netshamudzinga (player of the tournament) and Alushavhiwi Marubini (top goalscorer). Every girl child who attended the event received a box of sanitary towels.
Sponsor Mr Solomon Mafanywa said he was impressed with the organisation of the tournament and praised the officials and players for their conduct. He added that the tournament would become an annual event, with both the number of participating teams and the sponsorship amount set to increase.
