Residents of Tshikhwani village in the Sinthumule area expressed their joy and happiness when the first holes for electricity poles were dug last week.
In this section of Tshikhwani, residents hve been without electricity for the past 12 years. At some stage, solar systems were installed as a temporary measure to provide power for lights and TV or radio systems.
One of the exultant residents, Ms Vusani Nevhulamba, said that she was looking forward to the day when the electricity would be activated. "Most of us use gas stoves and wood for anything from preparing food and boiling water to keeping our houses warm," she said.
Makhado Municipality's Cllr Mavhimbi Mashamba (Ward 23) said that he was pleased with the kind of services that the municipality was delivering to his ward. "The municipality kept their promise," he said. "The project was started on 23 October and it will end in June next year."
The project provided short-term employment to at least 27 people from the ward.
