Tshikota High School will represent Vhembe at the provincial Kay Motsepe U/19 soccer tournament that will be held in Polokwane this Saturday (3 September).
Tshikota were crowned as the champions on Saturday, 20 August, when they beat Mamvuka High 2-1 in the Vhembe final played at the Lesley Manyathela stadium in Musina. They are going to compete with the winners from the four other regions.
Tshikota High's coach, Mr Justice Matloga, said that the school had been participating in the competition since its inception and this was their fourth year in the provincial final. "I'm happy that I am the coach that made it possible for them to get this far in the competition this year. The boys are very happy about making it to the provincials. I hope that they will eventually get good results."
He said that the players were excited about going to the finals. "They talk as if they have already won. It shows the level of their commitment."
Matloga said that the team had received tremendous support from the school principal and the teachers. "Just getting to the provincial finals has made a difference to the boys in terms of confidence and motivation. The boys are doing their best, and I'm impressed with their performance."
He said their aim was to use the tournament as steppingstone to the national championship. "Apart from the fact that there is a lot at stake in the competition, it is time for us to fulfil our promises. We promised the fans and all the Vhembe residents that we want to bring home some silverware."
