Tshilamba-born gospel musician and worship leader Johnson Masindi hopes to inspire listeners through his latest single, Tombo Langa, released on 31 May.
Raised in a Christian family in Lukau, Masindi (28) says his love for music was nurtured in church from an early age. He was inspired by his uncle, Munyai Eric, who played bass guitar, and his grandfather, who built a guitar from tin and wood.
His latest release, Tombo Langa, features gospel minister Laughter Mudzielwana and was produced by Tshamano Hulani of H Production.
“The song was inspired by my understanding of God as my rock and firm foundation,” he said. “It is a declaration of trust in God regardless of circumstances.”
As a child, Masindi made drums from tins and buckets before beginning to sing at the age of 12. He joined his church worship team at 14, where he developed both his musical ability and spiritual gifts.
“My music journey began at a very young age while growing up in Tshilamba, Lukau,” he said.
His professional music career began in 2018 when he recorded his first song with producer Mr Mphaga. He later hosted worship events, including Another Level of Worship in 2022 and Outdoor Worship Session in 2024.
According to Masindi, the response to Tombo Langa has been encouraging, with listeners sharing testimonies about how the song has strengthened their faith.
He said he has written many songs that are yet to be recorded and plans to release more music, host worship events and collaborate with other artists in future.
