Tshilidzi Mufeba (26) from Paradise Maname in the Nzhelele area has become a prominent radio presenter on Makhado FM. Since November last year, she has been engaging and entertaining thousands of listeners. Presently, she hosts the "Tsivhudzo" show on weekdays from 09:00 to 12:00.
Mufeba's educational journey took her through Tshivhase Secondary School, followed by a bachelor's degree in media studies at the University of Venda (Univen). Her path to becoming a radio presenter started like many others, with an interview. She attended auditions at Makhado FM and successfully secured a position.
"I enjoy every moment I am on air. My listeners are like family. They always make me feel at home when I am behind the microphone. I'm really grateful to Makhado FM for giving young people like me, who come from different backgrounds, a chance and a stepping stone to their dreams," she said.
She stressed the importance for every radio presenter to respect the seat they occupy while they are on air. "One thing I've realised is the influence radio has on listeners. They trust and take almost everything from the radio as it is. So, we need to ensure that we respect the people and evaluate the information before we deliver it. That is the only way for us to maintain our relationship with the communities out there," she said.
Reflecting on her upbringing in the village, Mufeba fondly describes her early days as "amazing". However, she acknowledges the lack of platforms in most villages for young people to showcase their talents. Many talents, she says, go to waste because of the absence of guidance on how to channel and nurture them.
For the youth, Mufeba offers a motivational message: "You have purpose, you matter; work hard and don't give up on your dreams."
