On Saturday, 30 November, thousands of residents from Tshiozwi and surrounding areas gathered at the royal kraal to celebrate Tshiozwi Day.
The event showcased the vibrant cultural heritage of the Tshiozwi community through traditional dances, colourful displays, and strong local support. Distinguished guests included Judge Thogomelani Tshidada, Makhado Mayor Dorcus Mboyi, and other notable figures.
A highlight of the celebration was the recognition of outstanding members of the community and former residents, who were honoured with certificates and trophies for their achievements.
The Tshiozwi Day celebrations were initiated by Vhamusanda Vhathundimapfura Sinthumule. He explained that the event aimed to promote cultural pride and inspire young people to prioritise education. He encouraged attendees to celebrate and embrace South Africa's rich heritage, including its languages, spirituality, sacred sites, diverse cultures, indigenous food, and traditional art forms.
Sinthumule also stressed the importance of education and cultural preservation. "We need to build on the culture of teaching and learning to produce thought leaders and technical skills that our economy needs for growth, development, and reconstruction," he said.
In her address, Mayor Dorcus Mboyi highlighted the value of cultural identity. "We should be proud of who we are. We must not be ashamed to speak our mother tongue or embrace our cultural roots," she said. She urged parents to take responsibility for restoring cultural knowledge by teaching their children traditional dances and values.
