Tshisimani Top C emerged as champions of the Venda Borehole Society (VBS) Top-16 tournament after defeating Super Makrey 1–0 in the final at Zwigodini on Saturday, 13 December.
The four-day tournament, which began on Wednesday, 10 December, was organised by Joe Manenzhe and Collen Tshibalo, featuring 16 teams competing under the Musina Local Football Association (MLFA) streams A, B and C.
The opening rounds set the tone for a fiercely contested competition, with penalties a recurring feature. Mbodi Disco opened with a 4–2 win over Domboni United, while Tshiungani, Maramanzhi and Madimbo advanced via shoot-outs. Super Makrey signalled their intent with a 3–0 victory over Liverpool.
As the tournament progressed, intensity increased. Top C edged hosts Zwigodini 1–0, Mbodi Disco beat Tshenzhelani 2–1, and Matshena eliminated Tshirunzini 3–1 to reach the quarter-finals. In the last eight, Tshiungani defeated Maramanzhi 1–0, Mbodi Disco knocked out Matshena 2–1, Super Makrey won 4–0, and Top C recorded a 1–0 victory over Tshenzhelani.
The semi-finals delivered drama. Mbodi Disco and Super Makrey played to a goalless draw, with Super Makrey winning on penalties. Tshisimani Top C overcame Tshiungani Young Chiefs 2–1 to reach the final.
The final was a tight, tactical affair, with Tshisimani Top C scoring the decisive goal to claim the title. "In knockout football, 'enough' is everything," said an observer.
Lyborn Tshiuda, operational manager at VBS, said the tournament reflected the organisation's commitment to community development through sport. "This tournament was not just about football, but about unity, discipline and giving local talent a platform to shine," he said.
The champions received R8,000, a full soccer kit, gold medals, a trophy and a ball. Runners-up Super Makrey received R5,000, a soccer kit, silver medals, a trophy and a ball. Teams finishing third and fourth earned R2,000 plus balls, while the fifth- to eighth-place teams received R500 each.
