Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions were crowned the Petrus Madzuhe Soccer Challenge champions at the Maranzhe grounds on Sunday. Lions beat Edson Muraida Youth Development 3-1 in the final. No goal was scored during the regulation time, and the winner was determined through penalty shoot-out.
Hungry Lions were presented with R5 000, a floating trophy and soccer kit during a ceremony at the grounds shortly after the final whistle.
Hungry Lions' way to the final went via Tshambobvu Junior Aces, whom they beat 3-1 in their semifinal match earlier that day. The runners-up, Muraida Youth Development, went home with a cash prize of R2 000 and soccer kit. Muraida beat Dolphins FC 1-0 in the semifinal. A third prize of R1 600 was presented to Tshambobvu Junior Aces.
The Dolphins FC received cash prize of R1 050 during the ceremony. The Dophins lost 0-2 to Tshambobvu Junior Aces in their losers' final match.
A player of Voweto Maximum Force, Mushe Masindi, received the top-goal-scorer award for the six goals he scored in the tournament. The other two players who received individual awards are Lawrence Mudau (best goalkeeper) and Khuthadzo Khorommbi (best player in the tournament). Mudau and Khorommbi are from Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions. They were all presented with trophies.
During the ceremony, one of the organizers and the sponsor of the tournament, Mr Calvin Sihwili, revealed that he would continue to sponsor the tournament in future. Ten teams, viz. Maranzhe Hungry Lions, Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions, Mukumbani Shooting Stars, The Dolphins FC, Edson Muraida Youth Development, Itsani United FC, Thohoyandou Development, Matondoni Home Sweepers, Tshambobvu Junior Aces and Voweto Maximum Force, took part in this year's tournament.
