Tshiwandalani FC crowned champions of Western June 16 Cup

The tournament, involving 16 teams, highlighted community development through sport and encouraged business support for local initiatives.

Tshiwandalani FC were crowned champions of the Western June 16 Youth Cup Soccer Tournament after defeating Madombidzha Brothers 2-0 in the final on Tuesday. The tournament was held at the Bala Sports Grounds in Tshikhwani.

The champions walked away with R22,000, a soccer kit, gold medals and a trophy. Runners-up Madombidzha Brothers received R10,000, a soccer kit and silver medals.

The two teams eliminated in the semi-finals, Gogobole Madrid and Tshiphalaphati FC, each received R1,800.

Tournament organiser Mr Ronewa “Rio” Nemakhavhani said 16 teams from Makhado and surrounding areas participated in the competition, which kicked off on Saturday, 13 June.

One of the highlights of the event was an address by the deputy chairperson of Makhado Local Football, Dr Samuel “Scara” Tshigomana, who called on businesspeople to become more involved in supporting local sport and community activities.

One of the tournament sponsors, Mr Sonnyboy “Stanza” Maguvhelani, said the competition reflected the organisers’ commitment to community development through sport.

“This tournament was not just about football, but also about promoting unity, discipline and providing a platform for local talent to shine,” he said.
