The IBO Welterweight World champion, Tsiko "Cruel" Junior Mulovhedzi, is complaining about not receiving his full payment after beating the Mexican boxer, Jesus Gurrola, last month at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi sport complex in Seshego.
Mulovhedzi further alleges that he is not the only boxer who has not been paid in full. He said that they were expected to sign contracts, but the contracts did not go into specifics as to when they would be paid.
The Limpopo-based boxer said in an interview this week that he was excited when he was offered the contract to take part in the tournament. "I started buying things and creating debts; now all my debts have bounced back. I am a full-time boxer, but I am still suffering the pain of not being paid the full amount of my money," he said.
According to Mulovhedzi, the promoters are taking them for granted. "This is not the first time this has happened, and when we ask, we are not given straight answers. This is not fair," he said.
Mulovhedzi said that he was going to write a letter of complaint to the boxing association. He has also parted ways with his promoter, Mr Ayanda Matiti. The contract between them, according to Mulovhedzi, expired last month. Matiti denied the allegations that Mulovhedzi had not received his full payment. He said that Mulovhedzi had been paid as per the agreement.
The chairperson of Boxing South Africa (BSA), Ms Muditambi Ravele, said that BSA was investigating the matter. Ravele further stated that they were in the process of tightening the rules for the application of a promoter's license.
