Residents of Giyani and the surrounding areas will have the privilege to watch top-flight football on their doorstep this weekend. This follows the Premier Soccer League's pronouncement that the Giyani Stadium is fit to host PSL matches.
An official from the PSL, Prof Ronny Schloss, inspected the stadium on Tuesday and gave it the thumbs up.
The NFD League match between Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) and Real Kings will be staged at the venue on Sunday afternoon. After collecting a point against Uthongathi FC away from home last Saturday, TTM must beat Real Kings to start their campaign on a positive note.
TTM released the majority of the players who were regulars in their squad last season. According to the club's marketing manager, Mr Livhuwani Madzuhe, they signed several seasoned players during the off-season to replace their lost talent. Their most recent acquisition is the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United sharpshooter, Edward Manqele.
Another top-flight striker, David Zulu, was on the verge of signing a contract with the Tshakhuma side. Should he finally seal a deal with TTM, Zulu will form a deadly combination with Manqele and Aluwani "Killer" Nedzamba at the forefront.
Also on Sunday, Richards Bay will host Stellenbosch FC at the Umhlatuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay. Ubuntu Cape Town and Mbombela United will meet at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit.
Pretoria University will have a date with Uthongathi at the Tuks Absa Stadium in Pretoria.
The newly promoted Maccabu FC will travel to eMalahleni where they will play against Witbank Spurs at the Puma Rugby Stadium. Royal Eagles will visit TS Sporting at the Kabokweni Stadium outside Nelspruit. All matches are scheduled to start at 15:00.
