A man was arrested near Giyani earlier this week on a charge of the illegal selling of elephant tusks in the area.
It follows after the police followed up on information about illegal activities and members of the tracking team arrested a man who was allegedly selling elephant tusks at Phalaubeni village, east of Giyani.
According to the police spokesperson, Lt-Col Montashe Ngoepe, the members reacted swiftly and a 54-year-old man was arrested and two elephant tusks were seized. "The police responded to a tip-off from the community members in connection with a man in possession of the elephant tusks," he said.
He also said that the origin of the elephant tusks were still forming part of the investigation. Ngoepe said that the suspect had been arrested and would appear in court soon.
