Police are still searching for the suspects who opened fire on two friends who were apparently walking home from a church gathering on Sunday morning (1 October) at Khakhanwa village, near Thohoyandou.
The 30-year-old Shadrack Livhuwani Mathugana was killed in the incident and his 25-year-old friend was seriously wounded. "The two men were walking from an all-night prayer service at a local church, when they met unknown armed suspects who opened fire on them, without saying a word," said the provincial police spokesperson Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe hours after the incident.
Shadrack and his friend, who cannot be identified at this stage as he is a witness, were taken to hospital. Upon arrival Shadrack was certified dead.
