To prove that they are serious about promotion, Black Leopards have bolstered their squad by acquiring the services of two players. The chairman of the club, Mr Tshifhiwa Thidiela, announced that Sedzani Mudau and Donald Makgetlwa joined the team for training on Monday morning.
Mudau, a 21-year-old left winger, played for Venda Football Club (VFC) for two years until the conclusion of the last season, scoring one goal during his tenure. Thidiela revealed that Mudau's contract with Leopards would expire at the end of the current soccer season.
Donald Makgetlwa is a familiar name at Leopards, having joined Lidoda Duvha from the amateur ranks in 2017. He was part of the team during their promotion to the DStv Premiership Division in 2018 and remained with the team after many players were released after relegation to the lower division in 2021. Although his contract with the club expired at the end of the last season, Makgetlwa, unable to secure a contract with other DStv Premiership League clubs, decided to return to Black Leopards. Thidiela stated that the diminutive midfielder had signed a two-year contract with the club.
When asked about the possibility of additional player acquisitions, Thidiela mentioned that the technical staff are evaluating several players during training sessions, and decisions will be made according to their recommendations.
Thidiela dismissed the idea of releasing old players in case new recommendations arise from the ongoing trials. Black Leopards will resume their league programme with a home match against Pretoria Callies at Thohoyandou Stadium on Wednesday, 14 February.
