Two foreign national suspects arrested during a disruptive operation targeting illegal mining activities in the Malamulele policing area are expected to appear before the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court today.
The suspects were arrested on Wednesday, 13 May, at Muchipisi village near the Muchiiisi Mine during a coordinated police operation aimed at combating illegal mining in the area.
According to police, various pieces of illegal mining equipment were confiscated during the operation.
The duo are expected to face charges relating to the contravention of the Precious Metals Act, as well as the contravention of the Immigration Act.
Police have intensified operations against illegal mining activities across Limpopo, with authorities warning that those found operating outside the law will face the full might of the law.
