The first matches in the KFC Under 13 Development Soccer League will take place this weekend. The matches will be played at the Mabaleng Sports Grounds.
The official launch of the development league took place in Louis Trichardt on Saturday morning. According to Mr Jafter Mamugudubi from Mamu Community Development, eight junior teams from the Sinthumule area and eight junior teams from the Kutama area will participate in the tournament. Mamu Community Development is organising the tournament to help identify talented young players and develop their skills.
"We want to identify stars such as Junior Manentje, who is currently playing at the Stars of Africa Football Academy under guidance of Farouk Khan," Mamugudubi said. Manentje is one of the talented young players identified from the Mamu development leagues.
The weekend's matches already start on Friday (16th) and continue until Sunday (18th). Thereafter, the league will take a break and fixtures will resume on 14 January next year.
Mamugudubi thanked the sponsors of the tournament. They are KFC, Premjee and Son Cash & Carry, Hollywoodbets, Collins Sebola Group, Phadziri & Sons Bus Service, Mikasa, Talisman Hire, Hyundai Louis Trichardt, Postnet Makhado and Tradepost 2076.
