Lucky Mudogwa, or Uncle Podoski as most will know him, is undoubtedly one of the region's most celebrated Tshivenda Tshingondo (Rhumba) musicians, along with names such as Phillip "Stringman" Tshililo, Papa Thile, Shufflers Ragimana and Ras Willie, who have all had a great impact on local music over the year. Fans will be delighted to know that Uncle Podoski plans on releasing his third album by the end of this month.
The upcoming album, titled Musanda, contains six vibey tracks, namely Zwiliwa, Gwadamani ni rabele, Mutsenene, Corona, Kha ri tshine and the title track, Musanda, and this album will no doubt be yet another treat for music lovers.
The gifted singer and energetic dancer hails from Makonde village, north of Thohoyandou. He initially made a name for himself in 2015 with the release of his first album, Vhusendekamisi, which produced very popular love songs such as Top 10 Ya Zwidakwa and Ngoho nga mahala. Four years later, in 2019, Uncle Podoski released his second offering, titled O tuwa. The title track on this album, along with a song called Gunwe, was very well received and music enthusiasts could not get their dancing shoes on fast enough each time they heard it play. That this album did so well is no wonder, as Uncle Podoski collaborated with artists such as Amu Nethathe, Tshilisanani Ramaru, DJ Thandi, Top Tiller, Why Pee, Sigar Kay and Ras Cosalem.
About his upcoming album he said: "For the past three years, I have been busy helping other local artists; playing instruments for them, arranging their music and helping them with vocals. But after continuous requests from my loyal fans, I eventually had to start working on my own music again. This new album will be different from the previous two as I have gained some valuable experience on the sound-engineering side."
Uncle Podoski said he was happy that people still appreciated his music, which continues to enjoy fair airplay on radio stations. "It is really a great feeling to hear your music being played on radio to thousands of listeners. It motivates me to get out there and continue with my music. It's about keeping my fans happy."
